For over a decade, Elizabeth Tobias has created conceptual photographic essays that are all-together spirited, stunning, and reverent. Her larger-than-life works examine the fluctuations between consciousness, perception light and space expressed through undulating gesture, confectionary color variation and ethereal atmosphere.
Emptiness is Form, Tobias’ newest work, is an aural-visual contemplation of the Buddhist dialectic on “emptiness” known as “The Heart of Perfect Understanding.” This series of sonic self-portraits explore the transliteration of Tobias’ spoken word into real-time wave-forms visualized through oscilloscopic manipulation. This introspective installation radiates from its meticulous production, minimalist nuance and serene expansiveness.
This exhibit is dedicated to Thich Nhat Hanh and his essential message: Bringing peace into our own lives brings peace into the world.
One of the best known and most respected Zen masters in the world today, poet, and peace and human rights activist, Thich Nhat Hanh has dedicated his extraordinary life to the work of peace and inner-transformation for the benefit of individuals and society.
Exhibition proceeds will benefit Thich Nhat Hanh's humanitarian initiatives in the poorest areas of Vietnam. Please visit plumvillage.org.
